From Placa de Catalunya you can visit the Roman ruins , the medieval city and the modern city. The old city areas are mostly flat, the modern city areas are on the slopes at the top of Barcelona.
In the Gothic Quarter there are numerous beautiful architectural remains of the medieval kings and , the Cathedral of St. Eulalia, the royal court ,Playa del Rei, the Frederic-Mare Museum and the City Hall . The Montjuic hill located in the southwest of the city and overlooks the harbour. On that hill there is a fortress from the 17th And 18 Century. Today the fortress hosts a military museum and in the area there are several Olympic and cultural institutions, as well as some very beautiful gardens.
